APPLICATIONS

Where this service
fits the work.

Different sites call for different access, equipment planning and responsibilities. These are common starting points—not a claim that every job includes the same work.

Utility daylighting

Expose buried infrastructure at defined points so its position can be checked as part of the project’s damage-prevention process.

Potholing & test holes

Targeted openings for checking underground conditions before design, excavation or construction decisions.

Slot trenching

Narrow excavation for a defined alignment, subject to ground conditions, utility-owner requirements and the agreed scope.

THE WORK / EXPLAINED

When a buried line needs to be exposed.

Utility daylighting and test holes answer a specific underground question before a larger excavation or construction decision.

Signs worth discussing

  • A drawing or locate identifies an approximate utility position but the actual asset needs to be exposed.
  • A small test hole is needed to understand an underground conflict or planned alignment.
  • A narrow trench or access point is being considered near known infrastructure.

How the work is assessed

Water loosens the soil at the defined dig location; vacuum removes the slurry. The excavation plan still depends on the depth, ground conditions, allowable working area and the project’s utility-protection requirements.

Where the scope ends

Hydrovac does not replace public or private utility locates. Spoil handling, backfill, restoration and access controls are separate scope decisions, not automatic inclusions.

QUESTIONS FOR YOUR SITE

Get the right scope from the start.

  1. Are the current public and private locate requirements addressed?
  2. Where are the excavation points, target depths and safe truck position?
  3. Who owns the exposed asset, and what happens after it is found?

What to send
before the quote.
